Jonghae Jeong - Artists - JB Art Gallery - An Online Contemporary Gallery.

Jonghae Jeong's(b. 1948) works coexist with a subtle balance of strong expressiveness and realism. He finds the basic formations of oriental painting in calligraphy and seal engraving, extracting the possibilities as paintings, and attracting the sense of touch.

The artitst graduated from Seoul University, which is the most prestigious school in Korea and awarded from top National contest and selected as top artists for 3 times from National Exhibition, which is held every year. Served as a jury of Korea Grand Art Contest.  Held 10 times of solo and more than 150 times of group exhibitions in Korea and overseas. Exhibited the most prestigious and honorable venues such as Sejong Cultural Center, Seoul Museum of Art, National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Hoam Gallery, which is run by Samsung Group, and lot others.

Calligraphy and seal engraving are areas that show the highest level of formability that can be produced in a plane. The work process of the artist starts from selecting a specific object as a material, draw it with several strokes on a cloth or newspaper, and then cut it with scissors and attach at flat surface as a collage. He cuts differently from the original so that it reflects the unique cut sharpness that can be seen when using scissors. Rather than being drawn, it feels like a stone was scratched with a knife. The work finishes by attaching this cut-out cloth to the paper again. The lines are painted in ink and acrylic. Ligaments have only been replaced by cloth and knives with scissors. It is his intention to gauge how the essence of visual art, which develops in the thin space of images and letters, shapes and abstract symbols, planes and bumps, is interpreted in modern art/modern oriental painting today. This also has a meaning beyond the limitations of flat painting. The dancing and rhythmic lines are the artist’s sensitive emotional tremor, vibration of the nerves of the body and breaths.
